Ecuador 2015
What words can I use to describe the experiences had in Ecuador this summer? My heart overflows with the memories made, yet when I think about how to share them with others, it is seemingly impossible. The only way I know how to describe it is through the feelings that flood my mind and soul when I recall the memories made in Ecuador.
When I think of the team we took, I feel nothing but pride. Our team of 17 students and 7 staff was absolutely incredible. I’m not joking or exaggerating in the slightest when I say that no one complained the entire time! They all worked so hard and gave it there all, even when hard times came. Whether it was an abrasive and demanding pastor (not Josh) or having to run to the bathroom every 15 minutes due to sickness, or eating questionable food and drinking that nasty hot apple oatmeal drink every day or even falling through a roof…they all impressed me extraordinarily. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about how much God used this group in Ecuador! The Spirit of Jesus was truly shining through this group.
When I think of the people of Ecuador I feel warmth and adornment. These people are so humble and generous and sweet! I think back to our home visits in the city and feel honored at the vulnerability of these single mothers. I feel fascinated when I think of how resourceful the people of our first site of Arjelia Alta. And when I think of the rural mountain people of Gualsaqui, I can hardly stop from smiling and feeling ALL the tenderness welling up in my heart! We visited Gualsaqui 2 years ago and the second Pastor Luis saw us he gave us all warm greetings and a kind embrace. I cannot describe the respect I have for Pastor Luis. Looking into his eyes is like looking into the very eyes of Jesus. He and his wife, along with their church, worked so hard with us to get things done, but they also made it known that the main point of us being there was to connect in fellowship over our Savior. They were so generous with their heaping portions of food they served us and the love that they shared with us. These people have a such a special place in my heart and if I could, I would bring Pastor Luis and his family to our church and house and show him all the respect and kindness that he shows us.
When I think of Ecuador as a whole…I feel hope. Jesus is so clearly there and I cannot help but rejoice when I think of all the amazing ministries, churches and people that He has called there! God is good and I am so humbled and honored to have experienced and witness His Kingdom and Spirit in action yet again in a different country. Thank you Father!
These are just some ramblings and inner feelings of a gal who simply said “yes” to Jesus when she was 17…but what about you?! Go out there! Experience the world, experience culture…experience CHRIST! He will take you to places and let you experience Him in ways you could never imagine!
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” Ephesians 3:20-21
